Empowering Rural Women through Digital Health Literacy & Telemedicine Support
"When a woman in a village learns to navigate digital health tools, she secures the well-being of her entire family and uplifts her community."
In rural Tamil Nadu, access to timely healthcare services, specialized medical consultation, and reliable health awareness often remains a significant challenge. Women in village households typically prioritize family care above their own health, leading to undetected preventible illnesses and delayed medical advice. Furthermore, while smartphones have reached many rural homes, a gap exists in using digital tools effectively for health education and medical assistance.
At Sundaram Ammal Foundation, we believe that health empowerment begins with digital inclusion. Through our Rural Digital Health Literacy & Community Wellness Program, we organize hands-on smartphone health workshops, train Self-Help Group (SHG) members on government digital health portals, and connect village families with qualified doctors via telemedicine consultation kiosks.

Our community health initiative focuses on practical skills that make medical consultation and health information accessible to every rural home:
- Mobile Health App Training: Teaching rural mothers and women how to use government health applications, schedule appointments, and maintain electronic health records.
- Telemedicine Assistance Centers: Setting up community tablet stations where village residents can consult doctors remotely for non-emergency medical guidance.
- Preventive Nutrition & Hygiene Workshops: Interactive sessions on maternal nutrition, adolescent health, sanitation, and early symptom identification.
- Community Health Champions: Training active village women as digital health volunteers who guide neighbors on digital medical portals and health insurance schemes.
Creating Lasting Health Impact Across Tamil Nadu Villages
The results of building digital health awareness among rural women are already creating tangible changes. Women are now proactive in seeking early medical advice, managing chronic conditions like anemia and hypertension with proper diet, and securing government health insurance benefits for their children.
By bridging the technology and healthcare divide, Sundaram Ammal Foundation is enabling rural women to take control of family health, fostering healthier generations, and building resilient village communities.
